| Overview: | This spectacular 105 metre span footbridge was constructed in Howden Yard on the River Tyne some 5 miles from the final location. The bridge sections were welded together in the fabrication yard and the joints ground smooth. The site applied paint is a gloss flake epoxy system. The completed bridge weighing 800 tonnes was then picked up and carried up the river using one of the worlds largest floating cranes. Watson Steel were responsible for the complete bridge along with the hydraulically controlled operating mechanism. |
