| Overview: | Located at the heart of the London 2012 Olympic Park between the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Centre, the Orbit is to be the newest major attraction in London and will be the largest piece of public art in Britain. Constructed from a continuous looping network of tubular steel, once completed it will stand 115m high. Approximately half way up the structure there will be two viewing platforms, the lower platform being enclosed and the higher platform having an outside terrace. Both platforms will provide tourists with views of London’s skyline and the Olympic Park. Watson Steel Structures provided the connection design and fabrication of the 1,470 tonnes of structural steelwork utilised in this project. The Group’s in-house company Steelcraft is responsible for the erection. Watson’s are also responsible for supplying and fixing the metal decking and edge protection throughout. |
